ICE 41 Event Recap and Night Honors (July 20, 2009)

Last weekend, I had the pleasure of attending ICE 41, my first show with the International Combat Events promotion, run by promoter and pro fighter Kerry "Meat Truck" Schall.

An all-amateur event, ICE 41 gave the crowd some good submissions and one great knockout, with only one of the ten fights going the distance.

Here are the fights results and FightTicker.com Night Honors:

Jon Voth vs. Troy Yania - Voth wins via armbar at 2:02 in Round 1.

Joe Dodson vs. Patt Bennett - Bennett wins via TKO (strikes) at :26 of Round 1.

Matt Metts vs. Patrick Crane - Metts wins via KO at :20 of Round 1.

Kris Lusch vs. Mike Dabe - Lusch wins via submission (RNC) at :46 of Round 2.

Bryan Neville vs. Chris Bennett - Bennett wins via submission (armbar) at :32 of Round 1.

Joseph Colyer vs. Carl Crane - Crane wins via TKO (strikes) at :27 of Round .

Jeff DeSantis vs Doug Davidson - Davidson wins via Unanimous Decision (30-27, 20-27, 20-27).

Matt Green vs. Joe Rankin - Green wins via submission (armbar) at :12 of Round 1.

Jake Shelly vs. Ben Holthaus - Holthaus wins via TKO (strikes) at 1:35 of Round 2.

Night Honors

FightTicker.com KO of the Night - Matt Metts over Patrick Crane
In his second MMA fight, Metts dropped Crane with a short left hook just :20 seconds into the round to bring his amateur record to 2-0. This is also Metts's second win of a FightTicker.com Night Honor - you can read about the first one here.

FightTicker.com Submission of the Night - Chris Bennett over Bryan Neville
One of the area's most promising amateur fighters, Bennett added to his near-perfect record (13-1) with a quick armbar victory over Neville. Initially a belly-down armbar, Neville tried to rotate out of it only to find himself stuck in an armbar that Bennett had secured from the bottom. Never one for a big lay-off, Bennett will be back in action as he defends his amateur lightweight title at this weekend's MMA Big Show event.

FightTicker.com Fight of the Night - Doug Davidson over Jeff DeSantis

A strong showing from both guys. Davidson won all three rounds on his way to a unanimous decision victory, but DeSantis made sure he worked for it, surviving what looked to be like a fight-ending arm triangle choke, and numerous hard leg kicks that Davidson landed repeatedly in the third round.

It was a good event overall. Reaction MMA seemed to have the best team effort on the night, going 3-0 (Voth, Metts, and Green), with all fighters winning in the first round and two finishing under the one-minute mark.

The vendor Actual Fighter was also on hand selling products, and debuting their new "Ruthless" Ron Mitchell shirt. Mitchell is a local fighter who currently holds multiple amateur light heavyweight and heavyweight titles.

ICE will be back at Metropolis for their next event on September 26, 2009. For more information, check out their MySpace page.
